The 5* Koningsdam looked rather lovely docked in Amsterdam last weekend.
This was my 1st trip to Amsterdam during the summer months and the weather was beautiful!
The brand new Holland America ship is based in Amsterdam for the summer season and sailing to Northern parts of Europe including the Baltic Capitals, Norway and Iceland.
Only 30% of the guest who cruise with Holland America are not form the USA and I feel this could easily be increased because of more cruises sailing from ports like Amsterdam. Let’s face it, you can fly from most UK airports direct to Amsterdam in just over an hour.
The Koninsdam is a mid-size ship. At 99,000 tonnes she is big but not overcrowded.
I was most impressed by the restaurants. The Lido market is traditionally known as the buffet restaurant, however Holland America refused to use the word ‘buffet’ and when you take a look at the beautiful décor and selection of stations you can understand why.
The world foods sections looked amazing. Sushi, noodles, pastas all made to order and served to your plate.
The salad bowls were amazing too and deserts where little pieces of heaven!
The culinary art centre was impressive! Sponsored by food and wine magazine this offers you the opportunity to design your own menu in the cooking classes and also make your own wine! $40 supplement is all you pay. It will be popular so worth booking early.
Other restaurants included a seafood brasserie and French restaurant.
We dined for lunch in the main dining room.
The food was delicious.
We started with a seafood cocktail
Followed by tomatoes and pesto soup
Gnocchi was my choice for main course but others enjoyed beef and vegetables
Desert was a chocolate tart with rum ice cream – great way to finish off a fantastic meal!
If you are still hungry then you must try the dive in restaurant. The burger and chips are amazing!
Have you cruised with Holland America before?
Would you choose to cruise from Amsterdam?
Next time more about this beautiful ship
