When P&O released it’s 2016 cruises a couple of months ago the Adonia wasn’t listed, P&O said that they would be doing something different with the Adonia which would be announced later on. They have finally made their announcement and they are going to be doing something called Fathom with the Adonia, so what’s that all about ?

Well P&O say that Fathom will be focusing on the growing number of people who want to work alongside local communities as part of their travel experience in areas such as education, the environment and economic development.

She will be sailing out of Miami to the Dominican Republic on a weekly basis and passengers will be working on programmes that make a positive social impact on the communities they visit.

There is a dedicated website about Fathom here :-

The last cruise for Adonia sailing in her current form will be a 14-night Amazon cruise ending on March 18, 2016. Passengers have been unable to make bookings beyond this date for some time, and just one cruise will be affected, the return to Southampton so fortunately disruption to passengers with existing bookings will be minimal. P&O have already contacted clients that were booked on the affected cruise.

Adonia will be going into dry dock where she will be refurbished and re-branded. She will also no longer be an adults only ship. The fathom travel experience will be available to adults and children over the age of 8 years old.

Well this is different I have to say. I wonder whether this will be popular or not ? At least it is something different that has been introduced to the market place and another option for passengers although I know my clientèle who like to sail on Adonia regularly will be disappointed.
