Baltic cruises becoming more and more popular

The number of people taking a cruise to the Baltic regions is expected to reach an all time high in 2011, travel agents were told at the UK Cruise Convention.
Speaking in the morning business sessions, director of Cruise Baltic Bo Larsen told delegates that the number of passengers wishing to visit the area had continued to increase, at an average growth of 12.9% since 2000.
Describing it as “probably the most diverse cruise experience worldwide”, Larsen said agents should capitalise on the variety of cultures guests could experience on a Baltic cruise.

“There are 10 different countries, 10 different languages, 27 different destinations and 9 different currencies, with nearly all cruise lines visiting the region, with the exception of the Carnival brand,” he said.
Copenhagen was listed as the most popular port of call, with a 21% increase in passengers since 2008. Stockholm, St. Petersburg and Tallinn ranked second, third and fourth respectively.
