Never say your kitchen’s small!!

Last Thursday I was very fortunate to be invited to London with my colleague Marie to a unique dining experience.

We were invited by Rocky Mountaineer to a superb dinner prepared by their executive chef Jean Pierre Guerin which was prepared the same way and with the same ingredients as it would be in the small galley kitchen on board the moving train.

Rocky Mountaineer is an iconic train journey in Canada through the stunning Rocky Mountains in Western Canada and is the perfect combination with an Alaskan cruise.

We were treated to a 5 course meal and I can honestly say it was faultless. I am not that picky an eater, but there are things I don’t like and I can honestly say I LOVED everything on the menu, even if my waistline didn’t.

My starter and the salmon….

Unfortunately, I only remembered to take pics of these as I was halfway through the risotto and the beef when I remembered and they didn’t look as pretty then!

I did take one of desert though…

I was lucky enough once to travel on the Sunlander which is another iconic train in Australia from Cairns to Fraser Island and we were shown around the galley where these wonderful meals are produced. Actually, you could stand on the spot and turn around to see it all it was so small.

It was a wonderful evening and I feel privileged to be able to have a glimpse  “backstage” at the creativity that goes into the seemingly effortless plate that is put in front of us when we travel.

All that was missing were the Rocky Mountains.
