I Love My Passport

Whenever you leave the UK, you will have one vital piece of luggage with you, your passport.

British passports have changed over the years. My picture in my passport certainly has!! They are now smaller and burgundy in colour and are European Union passports. They are also micro chipped and this has certainly helped to speed up arrival queues at UK airports. The photos are now printed onto the page rather than just stuck on and you can no longer just add a spouse or children to yours, they must all have their own.

I am all in favour for anything that helps to make travel safer and actually think that we should all be fingerprinted as they do in the USA to help security.

Passport photos are always a source of amusement. By the time you have positioned yourself carefully in front of the camera, removed any glasses and pulled your most serious expression, they are rarely flattering. They also are alongside your date of birth which should, I believe, be kept a closely guarded secret!

That aside, I have to say that I love my passport. When it is in my bag, it means I am off on another adventure. It may mean I’m just on a ship for a night as I was a couple of weeks ago on Marco Polo or I will be in March at the launch of P&O’s Britannia, or it may mean I’m off to the other side of the world.

One big excitement to me is getting a stamp. I think it’s a shame that this doesn’t happen in every country we go to. It takes a lot more trips now to fill the pages than it used to and the more unusual the stamp, the better for me.

This is my all-time favourite. It’s from the beautiful Cook Islands and filled a whole page!
