Sydney, dreams shattered?

sydney

It had taken me 28 years to finally reach my dream destination, a place I had dreamed about for so many years, a place that I had built up so much. The year was 1999 and I had always said to myself “I will see in the Millennium in Sydney” previously I had been busy saving all my money from working on cruise ships dreaming of this moment. I remember it so well, finishing my last shift on board the SS Norway having cruised the Atlantic for the last 7 days. I was within touching distance, I just needed to sign off the ship and make it to my nearest travel agents, it was about to happen.

I slowly enter Flight Centre and make my way to the closest travel agent available

“One way ticket to Sydney please”

It took no time and I finally had the ticket in my hand, I was buzzing with excitement this was it, I was finally going to the one place I had always dreamed about. See you must remember I had travelled all over the world with many different cruise lines, but I had never been given the opportunity to get to that part of the distant world.

It was about to happen and I filled with a mix of emotions….

The day was here I boarded my flight and realised just how far this place was from home, 3 different flights over a travelling period of what felt forever !

I did not sleep at all I was way too excited, and I remember vividly the last 30 minutes of my last flight into Australia, I remember us flying up above the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, my god my heart was pumping…………………………..this is it I am finally here…..

I remember again travelling with just my ruck sack, I had not made any plans, what did a taxi look like, where was I going to go……………Jeez I was an experienced traveller and I felt way our of my league.
