British Cruise worker ‘missing’

The British youth councelor who was working on the Disney Wonder is still missing today after an extensive search.  The Girl named as Rebecca Coriam, a British national from Chester went missing off the ship whilst it was sailing around the Mexican Riviera.

According to Disney spokeswoman Christi Erwin Donnan, the crewmember was reported missing Tuesday morning when she failed to report for duty. Several thorough inspections of the ship were conducted, one as recently as Saturday.

The line has been in contact with the F.B.I. and the Bahamian Maritime Authority, which is leading the investigation on this matter. (Disney Wonder is registered in the Bahamas, and so the flag state takes the reins in this case.) The Mexican Navy out of Cabo San Lucas conducted a search along the ship’s route, which has now ended. Authorities have also “spoken with the crewmember’s colleagues to gather as much information as possible.

This is quite disturbing to me beings I am a former cruise employee.  During my time on ships we had one crew member go missing but this was while we were in port and we think the person just had enough and left of his own accord, knowone knows what really happened.

The worry with Rebecca is that the ship was at sea when the alarm was raised.  There are many people who work at http://www.cruise.co.uk/ who used to work on ships and there is talk about this situation around the office as to what has actually happened to Rebecca.  All I can say is my thoughts are with the family and looking onto the safe return of Rebecca.
