Xmas Markets River Cruise….

Well after my brilliant trip to the Christmas markets in Manchester last weekend I thought I would have a bit of a nosy and see which river cruises were offering a chance for you to see the Christmas markets. Now this 1 really caught my eye which is on the 4* MPS Amsterdam with RiverCruises:

Itinerary
Day 1 UK – Rotterdam

Day  2 – Rotterdam – Lille – Hasselt 
Lille is a small Christmas market which is held at Place Rihour. It has plenty of wooden chalets selling handmade decorations, toys, honey, beers and lots more! There is something for all. You will not go hungry as there are lots of places to eat including stalls offering hot soup, hot dogs, chocolate crepes and donuts! A Ferris Wheel turns on the main square, which is transformed into a winter wonderland, dominated by an 18-meter high Christmas tree. Lille is lit with Christmas lights and looks magical.

Day 3 – Hasselt – Liege

Liege Christmas Market is the biggest Christmas market in Belgium. You will find over 170 decorated stalls which make up one of Belgium’s biggest Christmas markets. It is the ultimate place to be for us chocoholics as here you can find all flavours of Belgian chocolate.The food stalls in this market sell mouth-watering delicacies, you can also sample mulled wine, Christmas beers and champagne. Liege is also known for its wealth of handmade decorations and traditional crafts. This year, there is also an outdoor ice rink where you will find in Place de la Cathedral.

From Maastricht a coach will take you to Aachen’s brightly lit Christmas market, which is is set around the cathedral and town hall. This lovingly decorated “Christmas village” on the market square has everything your heart could desire. There local speciality is the Aachen Printen (a kind of gingerbread), where you will also find other Christmas cakes and biscuits, “Domino Stones”, gingerbread, marzipan bread and potato fritters. 

Bruges is a magical city, especially in winter when its cobbled streets are alive with festivities, glowing with Christmas lights. To add to the atmosphere, an open air ice rink is built on the Bruges Market Square close to the many food and festive gift stalls. Now if you are a chocoholic like myself and love Belgian chocolate, well you’ve come to the right place – the variety is astounding – a chocolate lover’s paradise!

A top tip !!! Do not miss the Chocolate Museum or Pralinette – Bruges’ largest and best praline store.
