Today I want to dedicate my blog to the terrible tragedy of two police officers that were killed after they were called to investigate what appeared to be a “routine burglary report”.
Unarmed WPCs Fiona Bone, 32, and Nicola Hughes, 23, were brutally shot dead at point-blank range in a hail of 13 bullets followed by a grenade explosion, after attending a “routine incident” in Manchester yesterday morning.
PC Bone had been in the middle of planning a civil ceremony with her partner.
More than 2,500 messages have been left on Greater Manchester Police’s online book of condolence.
