Smokers Are Out In The Cold !!!

Well even more bad news for us smokers, would you believe P&O and Cunard have announced that they are banning smoking on their balconies from April 2014. Yes banning !
P&O and Cunard have released this statement below:
“Following feedback from our guests and the results of recent customer research, smoking will no longer be permitted on stateroom balconies.
Smoking is therefore not permitted in staterooms, balconies or public areas but will continue to be permitted in designated areas of the open deck.
Electronic cigarettes which do not emit smoke are not permitted in public areas but can be used in staterooms, balconies and designated areas of the open deck.
This change has been made for the safety and comfort of our passengers and means that all passengers will be able to enjoy full use of their private balconies, without the effect of drifting smoke.”

This will come into effect on the following cruises:

P&O Cruises :

Adonia            29 April 2014

Arcadia           13 April 2014
Aurora            24 April 2014
Azura              4 April 2014
Oceana           5 April 2014
Oriana             18 April 2014
Ventura           26 March 2014

Cunard :
Queen Elizabeth      8 June 2014
Queen Mary 2         16 May 2014
Queen Victoria        28 April 2014

One thing I have noticed is that over the last few months more and more cruise liners are following suite to this new legislation that bans smoking indoors. I had a feeling this was going to come but I really didn’t think P&O and Cunard would of taken such a drastic decision to stop smoking on a private balcony. This new rule has caused a bit of a stink with a few of my passengers who have even gone to the extreme of cancelling their future cruise.

Well it looks like us smokers will either have to give up or not cruise, unless you don’t mind being out in the cold !

  1. Princess changed a couple of years ago and I was really annoyed. But I have got used to it.

The big moan now, is that in the smoking areas(now quite small), non smokers walk past complaining. Hey you have the rest of the ship, and can get on your balcony!
