Royal Caribbean Follow Suit !!!!!

Looks like gratuities are definitely on the increase with all cruise liners. I did mention in one of my previous blogs with regards to P&O and Cunard increasing their gratuities and it looks like Royal Caribbean are following suit.

From the 01st March 2013, Royal Caribbean will be increasing their gratuities to US$12 per person per day. If you are booked in a Grand Suite or above the daily charge will be increasing to $14.25 per person per day. This charge will be automatically added on to your on board account.

If you have already booked your cruise with Royal Caribbean and you have opted in and have already paid for gratuities they will not increase, but If you have opted out from not pre paying gratuities, these will be the new charges that are being applied to your on board account.
Gratuities are not compulsory, they are at your discretion, if you feel that the service wasn’t satisfactory or you wish to increase, decrease or remove them from your on board account you may request this by visiting the Guest Services desk.
Alternatively, you may pay in cash at the end of your cruisedirectly to the crew members you wish to tip personally for their exceptional service. Now if this is the way you prefer to tip all you need to do is go to the Guest Relation Desk on board  and they will give you an envelope for the crew member concerned.
My thoughts are : Royal Caribbean give you an option to pre pay gratuities and all I can say is it would be better to pre pay them because you never know when they will increase their prices again. If you have already booked your cruise and have opted out from pre paying gratuities it might be a good idea to get in touch with you booking agent and have them added back on to your account before they increase on the 1st March 2013.
