Cunard are Increasing Gratuities !!!!

Cunard have announced that from the 07thApril 2013 they will be increasing their gratuities. Cunard’s will be increasing them to $0.50 per person per day. They haven’t increased their prices for quite a while and they have assessed their own charges against other leading cruise lines and are confident that by applying this small increase they will in line with their competitors. Which is fair enough, but I can imagine now other cruise liners are going to follow suite and start to increase their gratuities accordingly.

Anyway let’s have a look and see how Cunard’s will be increasing their gratuities-
Britannia Staterooms:  increasing from US$11 to US$11.50 per person per day

Princess Grill and Queens Grill Suites: increasing from US$13 to US$13.50 per person per day

This increase will take effect from all voyages post World and Exotic Voyages 2013 and will begin from the following voyages:-

Queen Elizabeth – Iberian Adventure – Sunday 7 April 2013
Queen Victoria – Spring Getaway – Friday 26 April 2013
Queen Mary 2 – Westbound Transatlantic – Friday 26 April 2013
You can opt out from paying pre-paid gratuities. All you need to do is, speak to the pursers office and ask them to take them off your on board account, then you can personally tip staff that have given you an excellent service at the end of your cruise. Pre-paid gratuities is defiantly a personal preference.

I speak to a lot of passengers that prefer to tip staff personally but the only problem here is, what about the staff behind the scenes that you don’t see, they are also doing an excellent job and work just as hard as the staff that you do see everyday and they are not being tipped.
Mmmm maybe this is something to think about the next time you opt out from pre-paying gratuities.

What is your opinion on pre-paid gratuities ?
