A Guide to Shore Excursions – Tenerife

For this weeks guide I’ve decided to write about one of my favourite Canary Islands – Tenerife. It’s no wonder that this is such a popular island for cruisers especially in the winter as it has so much to offer whilst in port.

Head to Santa Cruz the capital city of Tenerife. There is so much on offer here you will not be disappointed! If shopping’s your thing, take a look at the El Rastro Flea Market and pick up some bargains such as leather goods hardware and crafts or take a bus tour to El Courte Ingles, a huge department store that spreads over seven floors !

You can learn all about the history and culture of Tenerife at one of the many museums. There is an exhibition centre and art gallery, The Museum of Man and Nature and also the Military Museum.  Or if you just want to soak up the sun, go to Playa de las Teresitas Beach and relax!

A must excursion is Tenerife’s, most famous landmark Mount Teide. As you travel to the amazing focal point you will notice the landscape gradually changing to a grey, red and blue colour. Be sure to take your camera as Mount Teide stands at 3718 metres there will definitely be some fantastic photo opportunities that you won’t want to miss!

Another great trip is a visit to Loro Parque. A hit with all ages, this attraction is a must! Home of the largest population of penguins outside of the Antarctic, here you can see see how the hours of darkness are recreated and how the penguins receive regular bouts of snowfall to re create their most natural habitat. Loro Parque is also home to many more exotic animals. Observe lions, tigers, gorillas , dolphins , sea lions and parrots. You can even wander through one of the longest underwater walkways in Europe’s biggest aquarium . I think you’ll agree it’s certainly worth a visit.

If you would like to know what other excursions are available or would like to enquire about cruises that visit Tenerife, as always  you can contact me for further information on 03303038399 or email [email protected].

Until next time, bye for now x
