DINE LIKE A NORWEGIAN!

Since the exciting news of P&O’s biggest and newest addition to the fleet and the initial hype of the launch last year of her Maiden Voyage and 2020 sailings from Southampton it has all been quiet on the IONA front recently but she is back in the news this week with an announcement of three new culinary partnerships

Iona will offer guests unprecedented levels of quality and flexibility when it comes to food and drink. The exciting array of options combines brand-new dining and drinking concepts with much-loved signature venues to give new meaning to the word ‘choice’. With 29 different venues to choose from, there’s something for everyone, whatever their mood, at any time of day and night.

A P&O Cruises First, Iona will exclusively offer Freedom Dining in the main restaurants. This puts guests in the driving seat, giving them the flexibility to dine with friends and family any time from 6–9pm. At peak times, a pager will alert them when the table is ready so there’s time to relax with an aperitif

P&O have enlisted three brand new Food Heroes – Spanish-born chef Jose Pizarro, Norwegian chef Kjartan Skjelde and photographer and home cook Marte Marie Forsberg have all been enlisted by the line, which has also announced a new dining venue – Taste360 – for the ship.

Passengers will be able to sample authentic Norwegian food in the main restaurant with Food Hero Forsberg, who was born in Norway but now lives in the UK also designing a range of local dishes which will also appear in Taste 360.

Skjelde has created a six-course Norwegian tasting menu for The Epicurean Restaurant on Iona.

“Our new local food heroes will be champions of fresh, seasonal ingredients and recipes that fly the flag for their homelands.

“We are privileged to have chefs of their calibre helping us to create authentic dining experiences that reflect the ports we are visiting during Iona’s maiden year.”

Skjelde said: “What is most important for me is to build a strong Nordic cuisine that comes across in every dish I create.

“Working with P&O Cruises, I want guests to be able to smell, taste and see that each dish of my six-course taster menu for The Epicurean is truly Norwegian.”

Amongst other P&O firsts IONA will feature it’s very own gin distillery on board to enjoy a drink before evening entertainment

Big news was revealed about Iona’s SkyDome – A major new entertainment venue and the first of its kind in the cruise industry – with a glass dome roof and spacious layout offering a relaxed, poolside environment by day, with tantalising dining and drinking options. Set on decks 16 and 17 and featuring an impressive roof and a pool with a retractable stage

The Grand Atrium will sit on decks 6, 7 and 8 and will boast three-deck-high glazed walls

Head to the limelight club to enjoy a sophisticated evening with Strictly Come Dancing special guests on selected cruises

Ocean Studios on deck 6 offers four cinema screens and will show both classics and recent blockbusters in surround sound

The 710 club – a P&O Cruises first – is a secret haven, exclusively for adults, in which to relax and enjoy the musical atmosphere, day or night.

Will you be getting on board??
