Retirement Cruising

I was watching the new Princess Cruise TV programme and I had no idea that cruising is SO competitive!!iStock_000060167012_Large

Each Princess cruise has an award for the most cruised passengers and it showed a Californian couple who had notched up over 450 cruise days who won the prestigious award – it was nail biting to watch and the competition was fierce!

Most repeat cruise passengers are happy to receive benefits like collectible items, invitations to members-only cocktail receptions, priority boarding, free laundry, complimentary wi-fi, cabin upgrades and for some lines complimentary drinks – the more sailing days mean more points which mean more benefit from the loyalty schemes that are all free to enrol

However for some passengers cruising is a way of life and is taking very seriously…

Royal Caribbeans most loyal passenger has taken 640 cruise and has more booked, he has been cruising nearly full-time since 1997 for about 50 weeks a year

I have clients who refer to their favourite cabin as their ‘Time Share’ and book the same cabin on the same ship for every cruise but that’s nothing compared to Bernard and Janice Caffary from Florida who set sail on their 100th voyage on board the same cruise ship Carnival Sensation in just over a decade.

But have you ever thought about Cruise Retirement? You’ll be travelling the World, cruising past exotic destinations and enjoying life the way it should be lived.

If you’ve ever thought about going on a cruise once you reach retirement age, why not instead combine the two and make it a lifestyle? You now have the opportunity to join a retirement community of like-minded people travelling, seeing the World and essentially living on a cruise ship with all the facilities of a 5-star hotel as your residence

86-year-old Lee Wachtstatter is doing just this, when her husband died she decided to sell her home but instead of downsizing, she opted for something far bigger – relocating to a cruise ship, where she’s remained ever since.

She spent 3 years  on board a Holland America ship; she’s been a resident on Crystal Serenity for the last 7 years– longer than most of vessel’s 655 crew members

If you add it up it living out your retirement on a cruise ship is probably not much more expensive than a Retirement Home and definitely more fun and wouldn’t you love to be crowned the ‘World’s Most Cruised Passenger’ …?
