Where’s the aspirin and a magnifying glass for these new deck plans?

Once upon a time when you looked in a brochure and saw the deck plan of the cruise you were looking to book it was very easy to pick a cabin – marry it up to the colour coded chart (only a max of about 12 colours which were all very different colours) and then could price the cabin up and then book.

Nowadays as the newer ships are getting bigger, the cruise lines are making more advancements in the different type of cabins they offer – for example long gone are just the choices of inside, obstructed outside, outside, balcony and suite cabin grades. Now you can choose cabins such as spa suites, concierge balconies, boardwalk view or central park view with or without balconies, royal promenade views, obstructed balconies, balcony cabins with or without a sofa, Ocean view or balcony connected staterooms, large inside cabins,  Inside Virtual Balcony cabins – the list goes on.

Just looking at the new deck plans for Britannia and Anthem of the seas and trying to help people pre register their choices of cabins is proving to be taking a little longer than normal – maybe this is because Britannia will have 35 different cabin grades to choose from and Anthem has 36 cabin grades !!  Also trying to differentiate between the different colours – P&O have decided to use 7 different greens and 6 different blues that after a while at looking at the deck plan seem to all merge into the same colour.  And that’s all before you try to work out what the cabin number is – thank heavens for the magnifying glass on the computer to enlarge the image.

Maybe universities/colleges should run a course in how to read a deck plan?  So when you ring up and ask for a price on a cruise don’t be surprised to be offered many different varieties of cabin and always have a magnifying glass ready to help you find the cabin numbers –  and although you can’t see down the phone rest assured we will have them at the ready as well.

  1. Hi there, Kerry girl! 😉
PDF deck plans are always bad experience for me – I just hate to zoom so many times 🙂
As to the colors – there’s no way to show 30 plus cabin grades with the basic colors only, and they can’t use numbers – coz the rooms have their numbers, and it’ll be pretty messy.
I recommend you for the Britannia cruise ship plans to see this link
    http://www.cruiseshipdeckplan.com/britannia/
It has a limited deck plans, since P&O still don’t show the rest of them, but all passenger decks are there.
Keep posting freshly cool articles, girl! 😉
