Some of you may know that last week myself and my colleague Nicola were lucky to have been chosen to have 4 nights in Hong Kong to do some sightseeing and testing out tours for us as a company to be then able to recommend and sell for our pre and post cruise stays in Hong Kong and also on stop overs. This was my first trip to the Far East and Hong Kong was a place on my Bucket List which I can now cross off.

Last week I sailed on the Celebrity Eclipse for 5 days and was a little apprehensive before I boarded after my mini cruise experience with them earlier this year. I am pleased to say having sailed now with them on this trip that my faith has been restored, normal hgh standard of service as you would expect with Celebrity was resumed and am no longer doubting that booking my honeymoon to Alaska with them was a mistake.

It’s that time of year when the nights are getting darker earlier, and programmes such as Strictly come dancing and X Factor makes a return to our TV screens. I must admit I am a fan of Strictly and this year was secretly hoping Charlotte Hawkins would do well as she is local to me and we went to the same high school – although we were not in the same year, but alas it was not to be.

I have been watching this series of Cruising with Jane McDonald (Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 5), and thought that when she was on MSC and Viking she did show more of the ship to the watcher/cruiser which I did think was lacking in the first series.

For those of you who didn’t know Jane Macdonald has returned back to our screens in a new series of 4 episodes, which is being shown on Channel 5 on Friday nights at 9pm. The first one started last week so if you did miss it you will be able to still get it on catch up.

Have you even thought about what your plans are for summer 2018? Have you booked your cruise/holiday for next year or are you going to wait for a deal to be released? Well in September this year 2 cruise lines will be releasing their Summer 2019 programmes ! Is this madness or clever thinking in trying to fill their ships earlier than the other cruise lines?

When I sailed on the Crown Princess back in April, we called into the ports Livorno (for Florence and Pisa) and also Civitavecchia (the port for Rome). As my partner hadn’t been to either and each port is approx an hour from the cities, we decided to do a shore excursion in each one and after reading through the tours offered through Princess cruises and www.cruisingexcursions.com we opted to do them through cruising excursions as they were cheaper than Princess but still offered us the guarantee of getting us back to the ship.

So in the last week some exciting news for Independence of the Seas fans has emerged – and it appears Royal Caribbean might be building bigger ships with new innovations on them, but they are also committed to re-innovating their older ships such as the Independence of the Seas.

Whilst I was on the Crown Princess in April/May we decided it would be nice to sample the Sanctuary for half a day, as we had often thought about trying the Retreat (P&O’s equivalent) but had never bothered. On Princess you can either purchase the whole day or half an day at $20 pp and then can pick from either 8am to 12.30pm, or 1pm to 5.30pm. We chose to do the afternoon when we were docked in Gibraltar as we had been to Gibraltar many times and would only be off a couple of hours in the morning to stretch our legs.
