MISCONCEPTIONS ON THE LOVELY RIVER

There are misconceptions about cruising in general I think not just River Cruising. I was speaking to my eldest son last week as he has been talking about booking his own holiday for this year, he said ” You wont get me on a cruise they are for old folks” & “you have to have a lot of money” ! I told him you must be joking not today, then continued to waffle on about cruising to him for the next 45 minutes…

So with this in mind let me clear up some myths lurking around out there amongst you and especially for those who have never cruised before. The reality of a River Cruise is probably quite the opposite of what you might think!

HOW FORMAL ARE RIVER CRUISES?

They are not

If your not attracted to River Cruises because they look too formal, think again, they are as formal or casual as you want them to be – it’s your holiday! From lying back in your shorts all day to putting on a suit for the dinner is your choice, there are so many activities and relaxed dining options it allows you to choose how you spend your time on board. Day time is casual and comfortable and in the evening- just something a little smarter.

ARE THE SHIPS CONFINING?

No bags of space

They may be a little short of space that is true. but when it comes to modern liners, there is plenty of room for everyone if you look at Viking and their new long ships they are very spacious and have libraries and spas, French balconies and restuarants, I think you would be surprised at how big they really are to be honest.

IS IT BORING?

Nope take a look at what you can have

How can you think this is boring?  a pool, a gym and a cinema.

I would say there is one thing a River Cruise isn’t and that is boring with so much to do and see every single day. You will be travelling to some of Europe’s and the Worlds most beautiful places by river, you will be disembarking for city excursions, historical tours right in the middle of each city, every city you will have a local person who will know everything there is no know about the place you are in, and speaking a good level of English. As you know everywhere you will be visiting you can also (if not included in your cost) pre-arrange some excursions yourself to save time and money.

RIVER CRUISES ARE EXPENSIVE!

No they are not- you pay upfront

In actual fact, if you break down what’s included with a river cruise compared to what you would usually spend on a traditional holiday, river cruises offer brilliant value for money I think . Not only are all your activities, excursions and accommodation included in the price, but so is your food too! If you decide that the service on board has been good, then you can tip as much as you like, but other than bringing along some spending money, there’s nothing else you’ll have to pay out for !  Well I hope I have answered some of your questions about cruising and especially River Cruising, Look at my facebook            https://www.facebook.com/jilljcruise       &  keep in touch with my journeys and my comments and help.
