Assistance Required

Cruising can be a daunting experience, but even more so if you are taking a wheelchair or maybe your hearing is impaired. You need not worry many liners have a fantastic array of facilities on board to make your cruise experience as easy as possible. I have sailed recently with Royal Caribbean and P&O and have been very impressed with both of these Giants of the ocean. Another suggestion is a company called Mobility At Sea who offer an excellent hire service, have a look on their website for further information.

 I thought it would be a good idea this week to go through some of the details for you and let you know what you can expect.

These are from P&O & Cunard if you would like information on other cruise lines this can be obtained for you.

• Can you hire a wheelchair/scooter on board?- Only with Cunard all of the other cruise lines you will need to supply your own.
• Can I bring my own? – Yes, for part-time use the wheelchair/scooter must be collapsible. Must have a gel or dry cell battery.
• Disabled Cabins on board? -Yes – wider doorways, more open space, wheel-in ‘wet room’ bathroom facilities, lowered furniture and grab rails as well as the facilities offered in any standard stateroom of the same grade,
• Service Animal? -Yes are allowed but due to regulations are not allowed to disembark at any port of call. 3 months notice required
• Hoists Available?-Take own hoist but you will need to check that the hoist is compatible with the ship’s electrical supply Swimming pool lift machines are available.
• Braille Available?-Braille on cabin doors, on stairways, elevator command buttons, in corridors
