Va Va Voom

As I’m in my final planning stages for our honeymoon cruise on Saturday on board Vision of the Seas with Royal Caribbean we have been looking at how to stay in touch with our four children and of course Jacko our fur baby whilst we are away.

Do we rely on our mobile phone for wifi and calling and texting?

Modern technology is fantastic for keeping in touch via all the different apps that are available from Facetime to Whats app but these all need wifi connection .

We’ve phoned pour mobile phone operators to check out ‘data roaming’ …..good luck if you get through and understand all the jargin to save coming home to a horrendous bill.

The easiest way it seems  is to purchase Royal Caribbeans new Voom high speed internet which this week has been made available on all its fleet .

It was originally only available on the Quantum and Oasis Class ships but after further investment it can now be expanded to all 24 ships and this will allow speeds at least twice as fast as previously offered and hopefully cheaper.

Voom will allow the download of music , games and movies , not sure I’d want all that whilst on holiday but if I was travelling with our children this would certainly be a must .

“Everything our guests and crew can do online at home, they will now be able to do from onboard all of our ships around the world,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International.

Different packages are available dependent upon your needs …..

Voom Surf Voyage enables passengers to do unlimited basic web browsing, email and social media. The package starts at $12.99 per day (one device), with additional devices added at a discounted cost. The line says that family packages of five devices or more start at $8.99 per device per day.

Voom Surf + Stream offers all the same access as Voom Surf Voyage but includes the ability to stream movies and music, as well as use video chat, texting and VoIP apps. The cost starts at US$17.99 per device per day, with additional devices added at a discount. Family packages for five devices or more start at US$11.99 per day.

There is something to suit everyone.

We will purchasing this onboard to allow us to Facetime our children and keep in touch with them all whilst we are away and of course to check on the house to make sure no parties have taken place .
