Ready for Rio!

Well the Rio 2016 Olympics are nearly ready to start.  Where has the last 4 years gone?  It doesn’t seem that long ago when we had all of the excitement of the games being hosted in London.  We have seen lots in the press regarding the Zika Virus, the controversy over Russian athletes and also about the state of the Olympic Village.  Some of the athletes have decided to ditch the village and stay on board a luxury cruise ship instead.  It had been reported that there was leaking sewage and puddles in the rooms.  Not what you want as you are getting ready to compete!  Lots of countries had said the accommodation was completely unacceptable.  Some of the athletes decided to check themselves onto a luxury cruise ship rather than staying at the Olympic Village.  Apparently the American basketball team won’t be staying at the village and they are staying on board the 6 star Silver Cloud.  They all have quite a bit of money unlike some of the other athletes so staying on board Silver Cloud wouldn’t be a problem for them at all.  The USA basketball team said they don’t feel stopping in the village helps them prepare.   The Norwegian Getaway will also accommodate people and will house the Olympic committee.  It is a shame I won’t get to see the opening ceremony as it is too late due to the time difference.  it starts about 11:40pm Friday 5th August.   I am sure we will hear lots about it on the news.  I do like watching the Olympics especially the track events and also the Gymnastics.  Hopefully will get to see some of the games over the next few weeks.  Let’s hope Team GB can do us all proud and bring home those medals!
