Are You Going To Scarborough Fair?

Are you going to Scarborough Fair?

Well I did for the very first time this Bank Holiday weekend. Yes, I know it does not sound as glamorous as St Tropez or the Caribbean but what a lovely area  it is.

welcome

This was a very last minute thing as our original plans changed late last week. Both my Husband and I already had the long weekend booked off so it was a case of lets look and see whats available last minute that’s not too far away.

There were the usual suspects on offer – Blackpool – done it, seen it, got the t shirt etc. The beautiful Lake District,  but as the weather forecast was for rain and anyone who has visited the Lakes and tried to enjoy a walk in horizontal rain, will know that it isn’t much fun!!

So when Scarborough came up we both agreed that it would be an opportunity to visit somewhere new.

What a lovely place for a short break. 2 Blue Flag beaches, that put others to shame, fantastic fish and chip shops – they have to be good to survive as there is so much competition! Scarborough Castle, great place to explore and let your imagination run wild with thoughts of Kings and Queens that visited hundreds of years ago. Yes, there are the obligatory amusement arcades, but it hasn’t been allowed to decay as some other famous seaside destinations have.

Half an hour drive away is Whitby, famous for it’s busy harbour and beautiful abbey – well worth the climb – 199 steps to the top – but what a view.

So, as you know I love my holidays, cruise, bucket and spade – whatever is on offer. But, if you are looking for something closer to home, for a couple of days, try Yorkshire’s east coast, you may be pleasantly surprised.
