Football Themed Cruise Destination Of The Week?….Croatia…Obviously…

OK so I’ve been harping on about football now for some weeks, but can you blame me, the World Cup has been a huge success so far for Russia as a country, what a brilliant show they have put on!

However, being English, of course I am astounded but also hugely excited about the fact we have finally, after so many painful years, made it to the semi final, with a, dare I say, reasonable chance of making the final….

The semi final pits us against another under-achieving football nation, Croatia, who are on the cusp of waving goodbye to another ‘Golden Generation’ of players, the likes of which perhaps should have gone further, like England, in previous tournaments.

But as the excitements draws ever closer to Wednesdays crunch match, my mind turns to our opponents as it generally does, from a geographical, and travel perspective. Boring you might say, but a result of the job and general interest in other countries as a whole.

Now Croatia is a place I’ve never been, but one thing is for sure, this is a country with some serious natural beauty, but also a huge amount of history and culture. The weather isn’t bad either!

The sail into Dubrovnik is one of the envies of Europe, with it’s huge walled city surrounded by stunning blue waters, a real feast for the eyes:

Not too far down the coast you have the stunning Split, also a little gem on the Croatian coast, offering some amazing photo opportunities of it’s architecture, along with charming coastal food and drink spots:

I think though my favourite place aesthetically would have to be Hvar. Something of a rarity on Adriatic cruises, you have to look hard to find this place on most!

Rather more underdeveloped than it’s bigger brothers as mentioned above, but I think that’s what appeals to me. I always say that Fuertaventura is my preferred island in the Canaries for the same reason…

Yes Hvar has a lovely blend of quaint buildings and some wonderful beaches, and even smaller islands just a few hundred metres from its shores. My clients always tell me this is a really beautiful place and that I must go soon! Hopefully I will one day soon!

So as much as I hope we absolutely bury Croatia on Wednesday night, I have to say, if they do the same to us, it certainly won’t put me off going in the future! (Although I may have to wait for the wounds to heal slightly)

Well, I hope I’ve wet the appetite for a little cruise to Croatia, so feel free to give me a call and I can get you there!

In the mean time, please excuse me for now as I am late in putting me Three Lions CD on repeat…

Thanks for reading and as always, until next time, and of course……COME ON ENGLAND!!!!
