Where To For Oriana?

Lots of speculation recently about who is going to take stock of P&O’s Oriana after the British favourite brand announced they are letting her go in 2019, sad face…

It comes on the back of them selling Adonia to Azamara to become the Pursuit, in a deal that has left many P&O stalwarts somewhat disappointed. Now the same has happened with Oriana.

It’s not a huge surprise with the release of their -currently under construction- new ship Iona, set for release in the not so distant future, it’s clear that the brand is re-shaping to suit the needs of the huge demand for cruising in the UK.

But all this got me wondering about where the Oriana will be going next?

Another Azamara? Unlikely she’s a bit big for them?

Marella? Also unlikely as they have just revamped the Explorer as their new flagship.

Cruise & Maritime? Doubtful, as their latest venture is the Columbus, which used to be Ocean Village.

What’s certain is that she needs to be going to a brand which values the small ship feel.

Initially I thought perhaps Fred Olsen might be a possibility as they have not brought out a new or revamped ship for a long while now, but I think they are quite content with what they have for the moment.

To be honest it’s hard to see what brand Oriana will fit into as they are all changing so regularly, and that makes me a little sad, since this ship has given joy to so many a passenger over her lengthy lifespan. She truly has been well loved and it will be a great shame to bid her farewell next year.

I’m kind of hoping one of the luxury brands will pick her up and give her a complete gutting from the inside out and remodel her into something outstanding. Perhaps to show P&O what a little gem they have gotten rid of if nothing else!

Who knows anyway, it’s all a bit up in the air at the moment but it does make for interesting speculation!

If you’re interested in getting aboard Oriana before she says her goodbyes, please feel free to get in touch with me and I’ll be happy to help you sail on this great little piece of British history.

Thanks for reading, and as always, until next time…
