Have The Good Times Returned?

A few years ago a terrible day rocked the world….

Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

An awful day for every Manchester United fan, knowing full well that it could be the beginning of the end for our beloved Red Devils, also known as the most successful English club of all time.

I’m fortunate to have grown up during this incredible story, my earliest memories watching the likes of Dennis Irwin bang in a few famous spot kicks, Peter Schmeichal bossing the back four of Parker, Pallister, Irwin and Bruce. The Class of 92. The 1999 Champions League final. Giggsy’s bare chested FA Cup wondergoal etc, and more recently to see the likes of players like Beckham and Ronaldo become two of the most famous men on the earth, all because of the Manchester United machine.

But of course, once Sir Alex stepped down, a period of unrest, new management, odd spending, and unpopular direction has surrounded the club over the last few years, going through Moyes, Van Gaal and recently Mourinho as managers, and despite winning some silverware along the way, the league has proved too strong, and the Champions League too tough for us to even consider becoming champs, a feeling that would have been alien under Sir Alex.

So a few weeks ago step forward one of Man Utd’s favourite sons, super sub; Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer…

Unbeaten since taking the reigns, Solsjkaer seems to have fired up the attacking engine once again, and breathed new life into the clubs big stars, the likes of Pogba, who under Mourinho just didn’t seem to click.

Now after a victory against Spurs yesterday evening in London, are we seeing a return to the good days, where the very name Man United is feared by other teams?

My word, I hope so….

Whatever you are feeding those lads Ole Gunnar, you keep on well doing it!

This resurgence has from nowhere brought us level on points with a floundering Arsenal, and given us a chance of a top four finish to give us auto entry in to the Champions League, a competition we have won twice in my lifetime, and a tournament we are used to competing in regularly.

If you’d have told me the league position now 6 or 7 weeks ago I’d have laughed at you. We looked more likely to be caught by the likes of Everton and Leicester the teams now a huge points gap below us.

So come on United let’s show the league who the real big club in the city is, and push hard to the end!

Ole Gunnar Solskaer, we salute you, and long may it continue!
