Best Coffee At Sea?

Recently I discovered the wonderful world of coffee.

Very late in life, I’m told by most people, at the enlightened age of 32.

So I started drinking the stuff about 5 months ago. My son was born just a few weeks before. Coincidence? I think not.

Yes this caffeine rich hot drink has quite honestly kept me alive some days since the little lad was born. Juggling work and tiredness has not been easy since the summer but I wanted to give coffee a massive high five for getting me through.

But I’ve somewhat got the taste for it now, and it’s my go-to drink even on days off. Almost a habit, and I’m told like everything else, it’s actually good for you if you don’t go crazy. Sublime news.

Like most blokes, I assume, that discover something new late in life, I have quickly become an expert at ‘Doing Coffee’. The ‘Barista Beast’ i sometimes refer to myself as. On my own. At Home…In the Mirror…..anyway moving on……

My wife calls it ‘Expert Mode’ when I start harping on about something I think I know stuff about. The same happened with Red Wine when I was in my early 20, and then Whisky in my late 20’s, and now into my fledgling 30s it’s coffee. What can I say other than, my word, I’m an expert at everything. True not true.

But the point of this blog is that it got me wondering, with a plethora of cruise ships from all over the world offering their own stamp when it comes to soft drinks on board, which of the cruise lines actually serves the best coffee?

I’ve been on so many ships now in my years in the cruise industry, but none in the last 5 months, so I have actually NEVER had a cruise ship coffee! The amount of times I’ve casually walked by the little coffee shops and cafe’s on the ships without evening stopping for a glance at the menu, the times I’ve sat there after dinner eating my cheeseboard and drinking my (expertly chosen) red wine whilst everyone else is diving into a rich espresso. It actually upsets me now to know the joys I’ve missed out on.

Choosing the right coffee in the morning now has become part of my daily routine, so it’s something that I would likely think about as part of my holiday.

I have spoken to a few people that tell me the Italian ships serve amazing coffee, which I find easy to believe having had many a Lavazza coffee at this point, especially the espresso grounds – amazing out of the cafetiere I must say. But I’ve also heard good things from some of the other brands.

So my question to all you experienced cruisers that have sailed brand to brand over the years is,

Just which cruise line serves the best coffee?

and perhaps more importantly,

Who serves the worst?

Coffee lovers, the floor is yours…

Thanks for reading and as always, until next time…
