Venice To Ban Large Cruise Ships

It was revealed last week that Venice is to reduce the number of Cruises that sail through the centre of Venice, in the high of summer you can see as many as 9 Cruise ships docked at any one time, and this is to be reduced to maximum of 5 and will only allow passage at Sunset and Sunrise.

Ships more than 96,000 tons will be banned altogether from next year.

I do feel a little disappointed at this as Venice is the most beautiful place to Cruise in and out of you pass some famous sights and landmarks, passing only around 1000ft from St Mark’s Square.  But on the other hand I do understand why they are doing this as Venice as long suffered with flooding and deterioration of historic structures and is a concern to many.

What are your thoughts, is it a good or bad idea.
