Caribbean Cruise Ends Early After Passengers Are Taken Ill

Disaster for Royal Caribbean, they have ended there 10 day Caribbean Cruise early on Sunday after hundreds of passengers and crew members have been struck down with gastrointestinal illness.

Royal Caribbean made the announcement a few hours after officials from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention boarded the Explorer of the Seas during its U.S. Virgin Islands port call to investigate the illness and evaluate the outbreak response.

New reports of illness have decreased day-over-day, and many guests are again up and about. Nevertheless, the disruptions caused by the early wave of illness means that we were unable to deliver the vacation our guests were expecting,” Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. said in a statement

Royal Caribbean have confirmed that  10% of the ships 3050 passengers have been struck down with the illness, and also 23 crew members have been unwell.

Royal Caribbean said special cleaning products and disinfectants proven to kill norovirus were being used to clean ship before it returned to the U.S. It said a full sanitization program would be carried out after the Explorer of the Seas reached its home port Wednesday.

I do think more precautions should  be made to prevent this from happening, I know outside of the restaurants they have the hand gel but not all Cruise Liners have staff manning them to make sure people are washing hands when entering and departing, I have seen to many people just simply walk by and ignore the signs, and then they wonder why  gems spread like wild fire on board.
