My quantum theory is I don’t like big boats!!

Quantum of the Seas is the newest ship to the fleet of Royal Caribbean. Okay she is not quite as big as Oasis and Allure of the Seas but at 167800 grt and carrying 4180 passengers she is still big. Too big if you ask me but I will reserve judgement till next week.

I have been chosen along with around 18 of my colleagues to represent the company in exploring this new ship next week on a two night preview cruise. To date she will be the biggest ship I have been on and although I am looking forward to it I feel that the cruise companies have somehow got it wrong! Do we really want gimmicks or do we just want plain good old service? Do we want to feel like we are travelling on a technology laden floating hotel or would we prefer to feel the swell of the seas beneath our feet and see traditional materials used in the bars such as teak and mahogany?

I am looking forward to relaxing in my Balcony Stateroom and to see if they have made them suitable for today’s fast changing world. One of my biggest complaints when on a cruise ship is the lack of power points to charge my plethora of iPad’s and iPhone’s which inevitably come everywhere with me.

Although I think this ship will be too big for my liking I am looking forward to the vast array of entertainment on offer which i have already booked online. The first show I have booked for is a new production from Royal Caribbean called Starwater.

Described by Royal Caribbean as” highly visual production that fuses video mapping, ground breaking robotic technology and live performance artistry. Human emotions are explored as our muse brings together the magic of the stars and the mysteries of the seas for this awe-inspiring theatrical experience.”

This show is held in Two 70 which is a play on words as the lounge holds 540 passengers and also has robo screens that can transform the room from a pop concert to an underwater haven for sea creatures.

I am also looking forward to seeing the full stage show production, all two and half hours, of Mamma Mia and of course all of this is included in the cruise price and again I have pre booked.

Royal Caribbean have also introduced Dynamic Dining on board the ship which means you have a whole host of eateries that you can dine in although if my experience of pre booking is anything to go by do not leave it till the last minute. My first night I am having to eat at 5.45pm as there was nothing else available as we only booked about 12 days before we go.

My children have had a look at this ship and I think this is where it will win in the family market as I am hoping that during my two days I will be able to do the following:

Skydive

Basketball

Dodgem Cars

North Star

As I said I will reserve judgement till I have been on board so watch out to see if I have changed my mind once on board.

If you have any questions before I go or whilst I am on board please get in touch by either emailing me at [email protected] or by contacting me via my Facebook Page or Google + Circle.
