Champion water boarder, a Queen and fireworks!!

Cunard’s PR department have done it again. After the last photos they published of the Captain of the QM2 standing on her bulbous bow I did not think they could match or beat it but their latest images come pretty close.

Queen Victoria arrived in Liverpool last week to a tumultuous welcome as 20000 people lined the banks of the River Mersey to welcome her into her spiritual port. For the first time in over 50 years she was here on an overnight call to celebrate a 100 years since the Aquitania had sailed from Liverpool.

Cunard has long had  a history with Liverpool as the company had it’s headquarters at the aptly named Cunard Building for over 50 years until 1967. A full day of visits and special events had been planned on board the ship to mark the Aquitania anniversary and she was also saluted by a fellow champion!

Champion water boarder, Jat St John, stunned the crowds with his acrobatic skills on water and “flew” over to salute the ships master, Commodore Christopher Rynd.

The day culminated with a dazzling fireworks display against the backdrop of the city’s Three Graces, the Royal Liver Building, the Port of Liverpool Building and the Cunard Building.

If this is what Cunard manages to put together for one ship then I for one cannot wait to see how they celebrate the three Queens in Liverpool next May!! Are you going to be there?
