Solo Cruising

So most customers that have cruised on their own would agree that cruising seems to becoming more and more expensive for single travelers. When I first started working in the travel industry I can remember when P&O cruises used to do single traveler options with cabin share with other single passengers.

However this stopped quite some time ago and not sure how this would work now with most customers wanting their own privacy. However most cruise line now offer single supplements for passengers who cruise on their own which means their cabin will be their own at a price.

Cruise lines don’t seem to offer a lot of single passenger options other than paying the large supplement which I have seen a big reduction in customers wanting to pay these supplements. Norwegian Cruise lines now offer inside studio cabins and Royal Caribbean now offer inside cabins with virtual balconies and single inside studio’s. Now I know they don’t have the option on balconies but lets face it, it is a start in the right direction.

Why should single travelers be penalised for travelling alone? I know everyone wants a fabulous deal but the single supplements are becoming shocking and I feel that Cruise lines should start to look into single passengers options. Some customers are happy to pay the supplements but I feel that the supplements just seem to be getting higher and higher and it has been known to work out cheaper to book 2 passengers in a cabin even though their is only 1 passenger travelling and advise the cruise line that 1 passenger will not be going so this is classed as a no show.

Bearing this all in mind I do think that most cruise lines now need to understand and appreciate that not all passengers travelling are a couple or family. Maybe in years to come with the biggest ships at see will introduced more single passenger options.
