Solo Cruise Travelers!

So I have a few single customers who still love to cruise from time to time and have recently said that they feel the the supplements are becoming very high. In all honesty, from the Cruise lines point of view, if they can sell that cabin with 2 passengers in it, the better it will be for them making more margin. But from a customers point of view they feel that they are being penalized for being a single traveler.

I do believe that with the newer ships becoming bigger and bigger they should build more single cabins giving single travelers the option to book a single cabin. For example the Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Breakaway and the Norwegian Escape ships now have the inside single studios which is perfect for solo travelers giving them the option to have a great cruise at a great price. However, again this is only based on single inside studio’s limiting their cabin choice to an inside only. Again based on anything higher such as outside or balcony cabins they still have to pay the single supplements.

So why not build more single cabins on these bigger ships giving solo customers the choice of inside, outside and balcony cabins at a good rate. Granted there is enough solo cabins of choice and the more and more aware customers would become would see a magnificent increase of the amount of of single traveler’s booking and becoming loyal on a regular basis.

Maybe if Cruise Lines were to invest some capital in this market as all agents are fully aware that if this was marketed in the right way could potentially see more and more single customer’s go on a cruise holiday as many times as they want with out feeling restricted. I know there are some Cruise Lines out there such as Fred Olsen and Norwegian Cruise Lines that offer some really good rates for single customers but in this day in age should we not be seeing all Cruise Lines follow suit?
