Sky Princess Definitely Did Not Disappoint

I have just returned from a 4 night trip on Sky Princess. It was classed as a ‘shake down’ cruise which means that they let a number of travel agents and press on to the ship for a kind of dress rehearsal cruise before the maiden voyage. I did a similar trip on the Majestic Princess a couple of years ago and it’s a great opportunity to be one of the first on the ship to see what it has to offer.

Sky Princess is one of the new Royal Class ships. One of the new features on this ship are the Sky Suites. These are 2 bedroomed suites with a 1000 square foot balcony. They have a 270 degree panoramic view. At one side of the huge balcony is an outdoor area with plush furniture and a TV. The other side of the balcony overlooks the deck and the huge movie screen. One of the perks of this suite is you get given the choice of which film will be screened for the ‘Movies Under The Stars’ viewing. You can lie down on the privacy of your own balcony and watch the film. You also get your own suite ‘experience manager’ to look after all your individual needs. You can see all the extra’s you receive here.

Overall the food was superb, which is to be expected from a 5 star cruise line. The buffet food and main dining was excellent. The menu for both grills on the pool deck were also a little different than the norm. They are also open until 11pm, so if you don’t want to bother with a proper meal one night you can just grap some tacos, pizza or loaded fries and chill.

Alfredo’s Italian did not disappoint for our lunch one day with it’s superb pizzas. This is a great addition open from 11am until 11pm to dine somewhere different at no extra charge. They also serve pastas and salads amongst other offerings.

I found the variety on the menu in the main dining rooms was excellent. I also thought that the quality was superb. Here are some pictures of what we enjoyed…

I tried one A la Carte restaurant, the Bistro sur La Mer. I think this restaurant need works. The beef main course I had was delicious, however the starter was bland and the dessert just downright odd. Others that dined at Sabatini’s Italian and the Crown Grill steak house all came away saying how good they were. As it was a shake down cruise I’d hope they take the feedback and work on it.

The aray of dining options with Princess ensure that you do get a lot of choice without having to pay extra all the time. See the full list of included and extra cost options here.

On my forthcoming blogs I’ll be letting you know more about the entertainment, facilities & what kind of service to expect.

Until next time…..
