My Trip on Sky Princess – Part 2

It’s less than 3 weeks ago since I was on board the brand new Sky Princess, sunning myself in the Mediterranean, but the weather we’ve been having here makes it seem like a lifetime ago.

On my previous blog I talked a lot about the food which was fantastic. Now I want to tell you about the entertainment. It’s no secret that watching big West End-style theatre shows is not necessarily my favourite thing to do on an evening, however having listened to a presentation on what to expect even I was intrigued. I had the opportunity to see 2 great performances. One from an all male group who’s voices were in fine fettle and they busted some great moves on the stage. The other was more of a West End type of performance, but with more of a modern feel. I have to say both were brilliant and have made think I may have been missing out over the years.

For me the Piazza, which is the ship’s atrium really felt like the hub of the ship. During the day they had cocktail demonstrations, quizzes etc and at night there were bands on and later on in the evening a DJ that got everyone up dancing – even me! This is also where the captain holds the champagne waterfall celebration that happens every week. It also has the 24 hour cafe serving complimentary hot & cold sweet & savoury treats for anyone who gets midnight munchies.

One of Princess’s signature forms of entertainment is Movies Under The Stars. The pool deck is transformed in to an open air cinema. If it’s cool weather they lay out blankets and on the loungers and come round with popcorn and serves you drinks whilst watching newly released movies or music performances.

A new introduction to Princess’s entertainment is a collaberation with Jim Henson of Muppet Show fame. Definitely something different. Here’s how Princess decribe it: “Jim Henson’s Inspired Silliness recreates and reimagines several of Jim Henson’s hilarious, innovative and magical works from early in his prolific career in a 30-minute performance. The Princess production show singers and dancers will bring to life the comedy, mind-blowing visuals, memorable music and world-renowned Henson style of puppetry that has redefined the artform. With a colorful cast of new puppets from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, including several newly designed characters, the show captures the spirit and legacy of Jim Henson and includes a lighthearted video introduction by his son Brian Henson”.

One thing I love to do whilst cruising is have a little flutter on the roulette table. The casino is large and I have to say the staff were great. I’m not really a seasoned gambler and sometimes feel a little out of my depth in casinos, but my croupier, Glen really put me at ease. Unfortunately as per usual the house won, not me.

The service from all staff on board was brilliant and I will cover that in my next blog.

TTFN!
