What Is A Holiday ?

Holidays are different things to different people. Working in the Cruise Industry you do tend to think that everyone wants to cruise and that is the only type of holiday there is !

What could be better than sailing around the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, soaking up the sun and visiting lots of new and exciting places.

Before I started working in the cruise industry I had very different ideas on holidays! Rhodes was one of my favourite places, as was Corfu and Sorrento, and there was nothing better than a couple of weeks on a beach soaking up the sun!

Of course a city break is a lovely holiday too, so many great places to choose from – Barcelona, Palma and Lille to name but a few. Crossing the channel and driving down through France to the south and the Mediterranean coast was also great, I even camped a couple of times – wouldn’t`t do it now though I don`t  think, unless it was a very posh tent!

Holidays can be other things too, many people take a week off work to decorate their home or get the garden ready for the summer. Sometimes even a day away from the office can really feel like a holiday.

For me holidays this year will probably all be about Rowan – my new dog! Being a rescue dog it takes longer for us to get used to each other than if he was a puppy. He has been part of the family now for around 3 months and he is settling in really well.

He is really beautiful and everyone who meets him says how handsome he is, I think its his eyes as they are like Cleopatra`s. He is a very quiet dog and very well behaved but, and looking at the length of his legs its no surprise to learn that he likes to run ! It was a couple of weeks before we decided we could really let him run free and be sure he would come back, but now he is really , really good.

Last weekend was a real holiday weekend in the little Northamptonshire village where I live – Bluebell Sunday.  Hundreds of people arrive  to walk into the woods and look at flowers in full bloom, then go along to the village hall for afternoon tea! So really this feels like a holiday and for Rowan it was his first of many.

Walking into the woods with him in the sunshine on Sunday morning he soon found a couple of deer to chase and lots of doggy friends to talk to, then he ran and ran until he was exhausted and ready for his breakfast.

Then its time for a nap ( we`ve nicknamed him Neil ) – he needs his rest to get ready for his first trip to the beach in Norfolk next month! Wonder if he will swim !
