Meet the Boys !

This is my first attempt at blogging so here goes. I was out early this morning taking the “ boys “ for a walk, in the pouring rain and freezing cold, thinking what I could write about. What better to start with than an introduction to the 2 Rescue Border Collies who live with me.

Hamie arrived 10 years ago in October from the National Animal Welfare Trust in Watford. His picture appeared in their monthly magazine as a “ hard to re-home rescue dog”. As he was mostly white in colour with a few black bits he seemed the perfect replacement for the much loved Maxwell, who was almost pure white and a lovely dog.

After several visits to the kennels to bond with him home he came, we then found out why he was hard to rescue ! He basically doesn’t like people – at all ! He’s fine with other dogs and with the 2 or 3 people he trusts but that’s it. He is a brilliant guard dog though.

His age was put at between 4 and 6 years when he was adopted so that now makes him at least 14 and maybe 16, he is a real old boy now and sadly going blind. He is still as fit as a fiddle, loves going for walks, sleeps a lot and is still grumpy !

Hamie decided he needed a friend about 3 years after his adoption. During a stay back at Watford while we holidayed in Sorrento, he met Ice. On returning from Italy he was bundled into the car – no bonding necessary this time – if you can handle Hamie your are a star – without a collar lead or anything !

Ice is the most wonderful little dog in the world. He loves everyone and everything. His fur is so thick he looks like a black and white teddy bear, and has regular trips to the hairdresser to keep him looking smart. He would be happy if you could just spend all day fussing him. He is a collie crossed with something like a corgi as he only has little short legs.

Both love going for walks in the woods across the road from home, and gazing at the lambs in the field next door. Their favourite holiday destination is the beautiful North Norfolk coast. They love running on Holkham and Brancaster beaches, and paddling in the sea.

Thats the boys !
