Meet My New Office Assistant – Rowan !

There is really nothing else I can write about this week as the Edwards household has a new member – Rowan!

Since my beloved dog Ice died last October the house has seemed very empty without an animal in it. Having looked after my friends 20 year old cat, who has dementia, for a month in January the time now seemed  right for a new dog to arrive.

So 2 weeks ago off we went to the Dogs Trust at Kenilworth armed with the names of about 8 dogs we had chosen of their website, mostly collies I have to say ! When we got there we found our favourites had already been reserved the night before and the rest we had chosen were not really suitable.

The only criteria really was that, living in the country with loads of other dogs about, the new one had to like dogs and people – otherwise didn`t really matter what it was or looked like!

Lounging, and I mean lounging, behind the reception area was this long, brown and white lurcher type dog who was the lady on reception`s buddy for the day. He looked really nice but he was fast asleep! So after a preliminary chat off we went to look at the other dogs in their kennels, having torn up the original list. We chose a few more and then retuned to reception where the lounging lurcher had woken up!

All I can say it was fate that we found him! He walked over put his nose and paws on reception and that was it – love at first site!

Rowan  is actually a Lurcher Collie cross and is a very gentle, nice natured dog. He was originally rehomed in 2011 from the Dogs Trust when he was about 1 year old and returned only 2 days before we found him, as his owners  circumstances had changed and he was being left home alone for 10 hours a day.  He came home last Thursday and is settling in beautifully and especially likes his food and his beds  ( he has three throughout the house, one being in my office ). He is very quiet and has not barked once since he arrived, the only time he has made any sound is today as I think he realises if he squeaks a bit I`ll take notice of him !

I think he has decided to be my new office assistance and he loves to sit here with me when I am working! He is a lovely dog, he will never replace Ice so its good that he is completely different, but I`ve got the feeling he is going to be a very special dog too !
