Jeeps in the Desert

I have been to Dubai twice and I love it! The first time I went was about 10 years or so ago and how the place had changed from my last visit in 2011.

I stayed at the Hilton Jumeirah beach, which was lovely and surrounded by wasteland and that was considered to be developed compared to 10 years or so earlier ! The things that stick in my mind from that first visit, during May, was the heat and humidity. There were little white plastic chairs actually in the sea so that you could sit and cool down, the only problem was it was warmer in the water than out of it!

The gold statues outside the Royal Mirage were amazing, and really are made of gold! The town itself was bustling and  noisy and I remember doing the evening dinner cruise on  the Dubai Creek.

My second visit was also amazing, Dubai has become almost surreal I think.  I was lucky enough to fly into Dubai on Silver Jet, it was one of  the airlines last flights before they went into liquidation, and we arrived into Sheikh Mohamed’s private terminal at the airport. Lots of things changed there, 5 , 6 and 7 star hotels are everywhere with hardly a blade of grass in sight( unless a manicured hotel lawn ) . The new monorail was being built and every designer shop you can imagine had opened up and it seemed so much more expensive. A glass of wine was about £10 – not the place to go for a wild night out !

It is an expensive place to holiday which also makes it a perfect place to cruise to, you can experience the resort but your accommodation, food and wine will be still very reasonably priced.

Costa and MSC will continue to sail there during winter 2015 while Royal Caribbean`s Splendour of the Seas will return to Dubai for Winter 2016. The itineraries all offer an overnight stay in port so what to do while you are there? How about the Desert Jeep Safari which is great fun and good value too!

I did this trip my first time In Dubai and it is still one of the most popular things to do, and probably the most exciting! I sat in the front of our jeep as we took off into the vast desert surrounding Dubai. Our skilful driver took us to the top of the dunes, let us take gorgeous photos of the sunset and then dramatically dropped at speed down the other side!  Its breath-taking and exhilarating to say the least as the jeeps twist and turn, up and down over the dunes, I expected us to turn over literally any moment but the drivers are far too skilled for that!

The sunset over the desert is spectacular and it soon starts to turn dark as the jeeps make their way to the Bedouin Campsite for dinner and entertainment. Fancy riding a camel? well you can try if you want – personally I prefer horses!!

The BBQ food, wine and entertainment are great and this really is an evening to remember. It last for 5 hours or so and at around £ 69pp is really good value – best of all I can book it for you so once we have your cruise booked lets talk about making it even more memorable.
