A Tale Of Two Ships – Part 2 – What About The Food ?

Carnival Sunshine has a huge array of restaurants, serving all types of food, enough to try a different restaurant every night on an eight day cruise. I love food so this was real food heaven for me !

The main restaurant is split level and called the Universe and the Galaxy Main Dining Rooms. Here you can have regular cruise fare served at your table by the excellent staff on board and is included in the cruise fare for everyone.

The casual dining option, also included for everyone, is the Lido Marketplace Buffet Restaurant. this is causal indoor or outdoor dining located on the Carnival Sunshine’s Lido Deck, this large casual eatery includes the Pizzeria and Grill , the Burrito Bar, The Mongolian Wok , Indian Tandoori, and a variety of meat and vegetarian selections at the Grand Buffet. Also The Comfort Kitchen, for traditional American inspired foods. The Lido is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Typically busy during breakfast and lunch, this is again a fairly typical cruise buffet restaurant serving the usual breakfast buffet. We ate here and our first morning and the food was good and plentiful.

The Comfort Kitchen serves fabulous chunky wedge type chips with real American Burgers! Great after a hard day by the pool !

The speciality restaurants however are where she really excels. Although we only had two nights on board we were lucky enough to eat in two of them – Cucina Del Capitano and Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, both were excellent.

Cucina del Capitano is a lovely Italian restaurant decorated in traditional Italian style and the perfect place to eat when sailing from Livorno. We started with Italian breads and oils, followed by “Nonnas Meatballs” – delicious – and the wonderful grilled prawns, oozing in garlic and butter. The waiters are excellent and friendly and surprised everyone by bursting into song as the night went on ! There is a $ 10 cover charge for this restaurant, but well worth it.

On our last evening we were treated to the Steakhouse. This is an elegant restaurant serving really good steak and some fish dishes.

I started with

LOBSTER BISQUE WITH VINTAGE COGNAC

Fleuron and Fresh Cream

and to follow

SURF & TURF

Maine Lobster Tail and Grilled Filet Mignon

Both excellent. The wines are really good too and again, this restaurant carries a cover charge of $30 per person but a must for everyone, especially if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary.

The food is certainly some of the best I have had on a cruise ship in a while.
