A Day In NIce

Although I have visited the French Riviera several times I have never been to Nice – apart from the airport of course. The coastal bus from  Cannes costs one Euro and takes around 35 – 45 minutes, its a really nice journey to as you travel through lots of beautiful scenery and little French villages.

Nice is the 5th largest city in France and Capital of the Alpes-Maritime region. The city is also called ” Nice La Belle”, which literally translates as Nice the Beautiful, probably because not only is it a lovely city but also has a wonderful mild climate.

I have been trying to research the best things to do in Nice and it would seem that lunch will definitely be top of my list! The hotel Negresco with its pink regency, 2 Michelin starred restaurant, Le Chantecler, with prices to match, probably won’t be the place we shall head for !, but I`m sure we can find a typical French Bistro with reasonable prices in this city, renowned for its good food and wines.

The Old Town of Nice, Vieux Nice, has hardly changed wince the 1700s, with its maze of winding streets teeming with atmosphere.  The Cours Saleya , or market square, houses a renowned flower market as well as the obligatory fruit and vegetables of the local area. The daily fish market of St Francois is well worth a visit as are the shops, boutiques and bars lining the lanes of the old town. It is also a great place to sit and watch the world go by from the pavement cafes and bars.

Of course there is always the beach and I love this description I found online:

” Nice`s beaches are all pebbly, sensitive ( or large ) behinds should therefore opt for a comfy mattress”

That will do for me !!

Nice’s beaches are all pebbly; sensitive behinds should therefore opt for a comfy mattress !”

I`ll go for that !
