What have Thomson got planned for the future of cruise ??

I love nothing better than hearing some news and what cruise companies are thinking of planning in the future. At a recent travel convention the director of cruise for Thomson talked about their fleet expanding with new ships over the next few years and utilizing their new aircrafts the ‘ Dreamliner ‘ and going further field and entering Asia and maybe featuring cruise and stay combinations.

Mobile phones are banned on cruises !!

Cruise lines ban the brand new Samsung phones due to fear of explosions.

Several major cruise lines, including Carnival and Royal Caribbean, have banned passengers and crew from using Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones on board their ships over fears of “dangerous explosions” caused by overheating. This is just after Samsung claims sales globally having already reached 1 million .
The phones had been recalled last month following various reports of exploding due to a fault with the phone’s battery.
Guests and crew in possession of an applicable Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone are required to turn off their device, disconnect the device from any charging equipment, disable all applications that could involuntarily activate the phone and also protect the power switch to prevent accidental usage.

Sunbeds at sea

People think it’s just the hotels that have German holidaymakers that have sunbed hogging !!
I have never heard so many comments about the shortage of sunbeds on ships as I have this summer. Here are some of the comments I have come across.
‘The main faults I found were the sunbed wars.’

Awesome August and Super September

Well what a whirlwind August was !!

Started off on the 1st August with a great day out to Chester races , we called it a ‘Sten do ‘ it was a hen / stag do for my sister and future brother in law , a couples day out and what a great sunny day we had and I had a win on every single race !!!
I managed to fit a couple of days at work in before we set off on our summer holiday with a difference. Some people call it a ‘stay vacation ‘ we had a uk holiday in Devon. We stayed at a beautiful place called Woolacombe and had full on glorious sunshine for the 8 days we were there. As you may remember from my recent blogs we are holidaying more in the uk because of the new member to the family ‘the dog ‘.

Celebrate for free ??

Celebrating something special on board your cruise ? What can you expect to get ? Anything for free ?
I am actually really sad to say that just recently I have been so disappointed with the cruise lines and the fact that the really seem to give nothing away complimentary now for special occasions. To say that probably about 50% of customers that go on cruises go on to celebrate special anniversaries or birthday’s and probably the only thing you will get for free is a song and your desert with a candle in !!!

Why should others spoil it for the rest of us ??

Most holidays start with the obligatory photo at the airport with a glass of wine !!
You start to relax and wind down and leave the stress behind.

Well this could soon be a thing of the past studies have shown that on average 62% do the above but this has caused a huge rise in alcohol fuelled trouble makers.

Your worst nightmare on a cruise

I recently booked a friend of mine and her family , Dad, Niece and Nephew on their very first cruise. They went all out and we booked them on the brand new ‘ Harmony of the Seas. As you can imagine the excitement built week by week, I love being part of the build up. We booked excursions organised entertainment on board talked dress codes and also what they could do to celebrate her niece’s 18th birthday which was whilst they were on board. The week before my friend came round and we sorted through all the documentation so they were all set and really excited. On the day they travelled I was thinking about them all day from the time arriving at Manchester then arriving at Barcelona up to when they would of been getting on the ship.
It was a Sunday and I myself was working that day , late afternoon whilst I was on the phone to another customer my friend tried to get hold of me several times I was really worried thinking what could be wrong?
One of the four suitcases hadn’t turned up at Barcelona airport !! This suitcase had her niece’s prom dress in for the formal night , nephews suit and also presents and cards for her niece’s 18th and all her nephews clothes. This would be my worst nightmare. As they were going on a cruise they needed to catch the transfer to the ship and so they left the airport arriving at the ship should of been a happy time , having their photos taken etc but they bypassed that and went straight to the pursers desk to see if they could help and then called me.I couldn’t do anything to help on the Sunday but first thing on Monday morning I was on to the airline who gave me the tracking details. I just wanted for them to get the suitcase back before her nieces birthday and the formal night. Tuesday passed and the case was not found and then on Wednesday I was thrilled to know the case had been found and it was on its way to Pisa to meet the ship. I couldn’t get hold of them on the ship but was thrilled thinking that it would make their formal night. Or so I thought …….
The suitcase actually followed them round four different ports of call but never actually made it to the cruise ship. They then waited another week for it to be delivered to their home address. What a shame I was really upset for them but thankfully they didn’t let it ruin their cruise and went on to have a fantastic cruise.

Is formality soon to be a thing of the past ?

Is formality soon to be a thing of the past ?

I would say that Cunard’s suggested dress code is perhaps the most formal at sea. Well that was until they have just announced that they are relaxing their dress codes could this be the start of more change ?
This change could be on the back of feedback from their customers maybe as for the moment they are just relaxing the dress code on the Queen Victoria on their fly cruise programme in the Med for the summer on embarkation night.Passengers will be flying in
from many different airports at various times and may not have much time to change for dinner.
formal dress code
There are a lot of cruise companies that are casual , Ncl have been casual for some time now which matches their strapline Freestyle cruising and no formal dining. Carnival are the same and operate a ‘cruise casual’ code.

It was great while it lasted

While the mediterranean was not having the best of weather my family and best friends had a few days in the lakes and how lucky we were with amazing weather.

We stayed at a place called Pooley Bridge which was sadly affected by the floods last year , the bridge had been replaced with a temporary one and you could see a few houses and business’s had not survived the devastating affects.
Still it is a lovely and very busy little village with some great little pubs.
We had some great days out and we walked miles visiting the waterfalls, Ambleside and Glenridding. We are lucky as all of the children are great at walking and its great to have them off their mobile phones and gadgets they usually have glued to them.
As colleagues and customers were on the brand new ship ‘ Harmony of the seas ‘ trying the zip wire we were also having our own fun doing the tree tops and zipwire at a great place called Brockholes.
