The Thomson takeover…Is Southampton on the horizon ??

Fantastic news last week when it was announced that Thomson would be purchasing the legend of the seas from Royal Caribbean to join their fleet. This is the second ship purchased from Royal and it looks like Thomson’s are ready to make big waves in the world of cruising and bring a fresh and new feel to these ships.

The legend is  22 years old now but did go through a big refurb in 2013 which saw it being upgraded with new carpets , soft furnishings and a new décor throughout.

It also saw the addition of balcony’s being added to cabins on deck 6 bringing the total amount up to 40% .

Thomson passengers will be able to enjoy the new ship , to be named TUI discovery 2 in May 2017 and be able to enjoy the facilities on board which include eight bars , outdoor pool with movie screen , mini golf course , indoor pool and spa and of course the famous rock climbing wall.

The ship will be based in the Med and itineraries will be announced shortly.

I think it’s a really exciting time for Thomson’s right now and by purchasing this ship, the 6th in the fleet, it may also possibly mean that Thomson’s may have more flexibility and offer sailings out of  Southampton.

This would be brilliant for the UK market and provide a really great opportunity for people to experience the Thomson brand at very affordable prices. It will definitely give the p&o ships a run for their money and you can’t beat Thomson’s for fantastic value for money.

We always have rave reviews from our past passengers returning from them and the overall feeling is that they can’t be beat when it comes to entertainment and food on board. The tips are all included and with it being sterling on-board you find that its very good value while your cruising and affordable for families and couples who love to cruise but don’t want to pay the earth.

Thomson’s announce that the Celebration would be departing out of Newcastle in 2017 so I think for them to have another ship in Southampton would be perfect and complete the big Thomson takeover. Families love to cruise and sometimes Princess or Royal can be just too pricey if there is 4 or 5 of you.

Thomson could be a very good alternative with Royal facilities but Thompson prices……….Perfect !!!
