UK Airlines To Enforce Strict New Ban On Flights

UK Airlines To Enforce Strict New Ban On Flights

UK Airlines have announced that they are following the US and imposing certain bans on flights to Turkey and other countries in the Middle East.

Starting from today, some airline carriers will no longer allow guests to bring any electronic devices that are larger than a smartphone on flights from Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and the Lebanon.

If guests do want to bring a laptop, kindle, tablet or other electronic device whilst on flights from these countries they will need to be placed in hold luggage, as they will not be allowed on the plane inside hand luggage.

Any device larger than 16cm x 9.3cm will need to be stored in hand luggage on flights back from the mentioned countries. Officials in the US had previously warned that bombs could be hidden in devices before they made the ban.

Airlines affected by the new changes include Easyjet, British Airways, Jet2, Monarch, Thomas Cook and Thomson. There are also a number of overseas airlines affected by the new rules. Customers are advised to contact their airline if they have any concerns.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said that the move was to protect the safety of UK passengers. Previously, devices had to be charged and passengers able to switch them on for security teams if they were to be stored in hand luggage.

Our cruise community have all been talking about the news which you can read about here.

Ger from Scotland said: “Personally I think it should apply to all flights not just those direct inbound from the 6 countries mentioned.”

So what do you think of the news? Do you think the ban on electronics on flights to these countries is fair? Do you think large electronics should be banned on all flights? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
