Global singing sensation Katy Perry has christened Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship, Norwegian Prima.
The new vessel has made cruising history, being the first major cruise ship christened in the quirky capital of Iceland, Reykjavik.
Norwegian Prima, the first of six ships in NCL’s groundbreaking Prima Class, offers exemplary service and contemporary design on board this premium cruise ship. The ship is 294 meters long, weighs 143,535 tons and has capacity for 3,100 passengers.
For thrill-seeking passengers, a number of exhilarating activities are available on board including the first three-level racetrack at sea and the speediest slides at sea – The Rush and The Drop.
Norwegian Prima also boasts a number of zen-inducing outdoor spaces, including the 44,000 square foot outdoor walkway Ocean Boulevard, an outdoor sculpture garden The Concourse and extensive infinity-style pools and pool decks at Infinity Beach.

More than 2,000 guests were able to experience all the new Norwegian Prima has to offer during the ship’s immersive christening celebration.
Icelandic Eurovision Song Contest 2021 entrants finalists Daði og Gagnamagnið performed fan favourite songs for guests at the ceremony before popstar sensation, and godmother of the Norwegian Prima, Katy Perry christened the vessel with a ceremonial breaking of a champagne bottle on the ship’s hull.
Ms Perry then wowed guests with a performance of some of her best-known chart-topping hits, including “California Gurls”, “Roar” and “Firework” on board Norwegian Prima’s three-level Prima Theater & Club.
It was so much fun to sprinkle some fairy godmother dust on Norwegian Prima and send her on her way to sail the high seas. I always appreciate a family vacation and a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so I was happy to wish all the vacationing guests a happy bon voyage!

Inaugural voyages on the Norwegian Prima will depart from 3 September 2022, with sailings to Northern Europe from the Netherlands, Denmark, and England. Further sailings in the Caribbean, Texas and Miami will begin in October and November.
