Princess Cruises has begun the countdown to the debut of its brand-new Star Princess ship, setting sail in Summer 2025.
The cruise line has celebrated the beginning of construction for Star Princess at Fincantieri Shipyard, with the official keel laying ceremony in Monfalcone, Italy.
The 500-ton keel was ceremoniously lowered by crane into position on the keel blocks in the dry dock, where Star Princess will remain until its float out. With the computer-guided manoeuvre taking just minutes, this marks the commencement of over two million hours that will ultimately go into building the ship.
Following this, a traditional blessing and ceremony took place for Star Princess, where Princess and Fincantieri executives welded a Princess Medallion into this ship- believed to bring good luck to the vessel and all who sail on her.

Star Princess joins her sister ship, Sun Princess, as the largest ships ever built for the cruise line, standing at 175,000 tonnes and carrying 4,300 guests. While 20 percent larger than any of Princess Cruises’ existing ships, Star Princess retains the intimate setting that the cruise line is known for, featuring several new and ground-breaking spaces, including: The Dome; the next-level Piazza; the Princess Arena; and a majestic three-story dining room.

Star Princess will make her highly anticipated debut in August 2025, with a variety of Mediterranean itineraries.
