Are These The Most Anticipated Ships of 2020?

As we leave 2019 behind, what better way to start the new year than looking at what 2020 will bring for the world of cruising especially as 2020 will see the arrival of the worlds most innovative ships! From the first roller coaster at sea to a hallmark of British cruising, 2020 is set to be the best year of cruising yet. So let’s see what the cruise lines have installed for us…

Scarlet Lady

The cruising world is about to be rocked by the highly anticipated debut of Scarlet Lady. This will not only be the maiden voyage of one of the most revolutionary ships at sea but will see the launch of the all-new Virgin Voyages cruise line. Sir Richard Branson’s first foray into the cruising world will result in a fresh take on what a cruise ship can be. From a ‘Shake for Champagne’ app to quirky modern uniforms for staff and Rockstar Suites, Scarlet Lady is set to be a breath of fresh air in the cruise world.

Maiden Voyage: Summer 2020

Odyssey of the Seas 

Royal Caribbean’s 27th ship in the fleet will be the first in the Quantum Ultra Class and purposely built for island hopping. The ship will offer a North Star viewing pod sitting at 300ft above sea level, with 360 degrees views and a two-level pool deck with two open-air, resort-style pools and 4 whirlpools. Odyssey of the Seas will become an instant family hit with the SeaPlex featuring bumper cars, trapeze school and glow in the dark laser tag.

Mardi Gras

Breaking their way into the mega cruise ship market, Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras will be their largest ship to date weighing a huge 180,00 gross tons. Mardi Gras will also be debuting the first roller coaster at sea, BOLT. The roller coaster will be the centrepiece of the ‘Ultimate Playground’ onboard Mardi Gras and will also feature WaterWorks and SportsSquare.

Celebrity Apex

Following the recent success of her sister ship Celebrity Edge, Apex will join her as the second Edge-class ship in the fleet. Celebrity Apex allows you to soak up every bit of the ocean scenery as the high concept design aims to bring the outside in, with tow story villas, private whirlpools and indoor/outdoor Eden lounge. She will also feature the now-iconic Magic Carpet, a floating deck that comes cantilevered off the ship’s side.

MSC Virtuosa

Hailing from the powerhouse MSC Cruises, Virtuosa is hot on the heels of her sister ship Bellissima. MSC Cruises have released six new ships since 2017. Despite this, the cruise line has outdone every previous ship. Virtuosa will feature a two-storey promenade, filled with shops, restaurants, bars and topped by a 305 ft LED sky.

P&O Cruises Iona

Iona will be the largest ship ever made for a British market, accommodating 5,200 passengers and 1,800 crew. Iona will offer the ultimate luxury cruise experience whilst also being P&O Cruises most environmentally friendly ship. Iona will feature the all-new SkyDome, this will be one of the most unique features to not just Iona but the cruise industry as a whole. P&O Cruises Iona is a highly anticipated addition to the P&O Cruises fleet as it’s been 5 years since the launch of their last ship, Britannia.

Enchanted Princess

Enchanted Princess will be the second purpose-built Princess Medallion Class vessel and the fifth in the Royal Class. Enchanted Princess will boast two new ‘Sky Suites’ centrally located on the top deck of the ship. The 270-degree panorama staterooms can accommodate up to five guests and will provide the most perfect, private viewpoint for the line’s famous Movies under the Stars screen. She has more pools and hot tubs than any other ship within the fleet and also boasts the largest balconies at sea at around 1000 sq ft!
