The three graces of Liverpool. The Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building at pierhead.

Here are a few statistics for those of you who like facts and figures. In 2016 Liverpool had no less than 63 ships docking in the port which is 9 more than the previous year. Amounting to approximately 114000 passengers and crew visiting the city.  Four of the Ships visiting were making maiden calls to Liverpool, including Disney Magic, L’Austral, Artania and Amadea. Plus the Economic impact from cruising was said to be worth around £7 million to the city.

An Official of the cabinet for culture, tourism and events, said: “Liverpool’s reputation and popularity as a cruise destination continues to grow and we’re delighted with the success of our 2016 season and the £7m boost to the local economy. We have a fantastic city wide support network behind our cruise operation, a wealth of things to see and do in the region, award-winning attractions just a short walk away and a dedicated team of people ensuring every passenger has an unforgettable time in the city.”

2017 is set to continue the success with Visits from Disney Magic again as well as the British Open Golf Championship which is set to bring both Celebrity Silhouette and Azamara Journey to the Mersey on the same day. There are also stops in the port by Oceania, Princess, Viking, Holland America, Regent Cruises, Saga, Cunard and Seabourne to name but a few.

Liverpool also welcomes back its regular Cruise companies like Fred Olsen and Cruise and Maritime with many departures throughout the year.

And why shouldn’t it do well? Liverpool is a very beautiful vibrant city with lots to offer a cruise ship visitor and all on the doorstep.  Famed for its association with the legendary Beatles, and a buzzing music scene even now. Someone also said it had a Football team that was quite well known but I wouldn’t know much about that! The City is famed for its cathedral and has art galleries, shops, parks and much more to explore.

It is great to see a Northern City doing so well and going from strength to strength. Let’s hope we see more departures from here in the coming years.

Have you sailed from here or visited on a cruise or not? I would love your thoughts on it if you have?
