U-Turn for P&O

In a shock U-turn, P&O announced this week that they will be bringing back the Adult only Adonia to re-join their fleet. It only been 2 years since the 710 passenger vessel left but her comeback in June 2017 with see her based from Southampton, and will be welcome new to those P&O fans out there.

In 2015, the Adonia joined a new concept of cruising called “volunteer tourism”, which aim was for passengers to cruise to poorer destinations  and after under going a 2 day training on board took part in projects to help in local communities.

For example, passengers will learn to build water filtration devices or how to teach English and then do these activities for real once they reach land.

However this may be the end of Adonis’s direct collaboration with Fathom, earlier this month, the group announced the excursions pioneered by Fathom in the Dominican Republic will be available on aboard  number of cruise line itineraries including P&O Cruises, so all is not lost, their charitable work will continue.

Due to the low key nature of the Fathom cruises, there were a number of changes that were made to Adonia before her departure including removing casino and theatre productions so before she returns she will be getting a upgrade including a new restaurant (Olly Smith’s “The Glass House”), an outdoor cinema on the Lido deck along with refreshed furnishings bringing her back fresh faced and ready for business.

We have been told to expect itineraries for Europe and Caribbean go on sale early December 2016 time and we are confident that with her fantastic past reviews these are going to be very popular and sure to sell out fast.

What do you think? Are you excited to see the return of this small and friendly ship? Has Adonia always been your favourite fleet member?
