I would probably struggle to find someone who missed the news last bank holiday weekend when British Airways we forced to cancelled hundreds of flights due to a power outage which crashed their IT systems and left thousands of passengers stranded, stressed, unable to go on their planned holidays and some even losing their luggage. This computer melt down had a major knock on  through out the industry which started on Saturday and was still effecting passengers on Monday of this week.

So whats happens when flight are cancelled and you are due to board a cruise ship?

Unlike land based holidays we rely on airlines to get passegners to their destination on time so that they can meet their ship before disembarkation. However ever when things do go wrong we are ready to help and have ATOL( Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing)  to cover these rare occasions.

How does this work?

If you cruise package including flights is entirely booked with the cruise line you will be covered by their ATOL, and therefore their responsilibity to make further arrangments on your behalf. In most situations they will rebook you onto another flghts to get you to the ship. If they are unable to get you to the ship on time, they have been known to arrange for flights to the first port of call.

With talior made packages we create for you including our bucket list and smart packages you will be covered under cruise.co.uk’s ATOL licence and therefore it is down to us to make any necessary arrangments for you. For our own package we always recommend and include 1-2 nights pre cruise stay, this can reduce the stress and upset caused by flight cancellations, and also givens you an extended cruise holiday (WIN WIN).

The only time cancelled or delay flights can cause you a problem is when you book your flights yourself separatley to your cruise package, as you will not have any ATOL cover and therefore it will be your own responsiblity to arrange alternative flights to meet your cruise and cover the cost.

Were you caught up in the bank holiday madness? Have you ever been delayed or  missed disembarkation?

Would you rather pay a little bit extra to book with a travel professional like us at cruise.co.uk to give yourself peace of mind to know we are there to support you?

Until next time

Marie
