Is letting your guest choose the itinerary whilst on-board a good idea?

Fred Olsen cruises have come up with a new interesting concept of introducing a cruise product named “Choose your Cruise”.

On these sailings there may be a couple of set highlights but the rest of the cruise itinerary will be deceided by the passengers voting between options on a day to day basis with the captain picking the winning port with the most votes.

I do think that this is an interesting idea but I can’t help but wonder if the percentage of passengers who are on the losing vote have a moan about it.

I guess there are plenty of cruises with Fred Olsen and other cruise lines that operate the more traditional itineraries and for people who think they would be upset by being out voted I guess the best option would be for them to avoid something like this.

I do like the idea that this concept injects a bit more spontaneity and excitement into the itinerary and will be interested to hear from passengers that try it on how they find the experience.

Fred Olsen have a “Choose your Cruise” itinerary sailing on the Breamar on the 29th of May this year to the Baltic from Southampton for anyone interested.
